Don’t miss On the Wild Side!
Thursday 5th January 2012

Make sure you don’t miss out on your opportunity to take part in an ‘On the Wild Side!’ entertaining and inspiring event in the Selby District area.
‘On the Wild Side!’ is a family learning project run by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The project offers a fabulous opportunity for young and old alike to join lots of other families in having fun outdoors whilst learning a bit more about the local wildlife. The project has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund over the last few years, however unfortunately this funding may come to an end this June.
Fun has been had by all who have taken part in past events which have included bat walks, Halloween events, mini beast adventures, guided walks, and much more. All of our events are free, and most of the time there is no need to book a place!
Kat Woolley, Project Assistant has said:
“Many of the families who have taken part so far have commented on how much they have enjoyed the events. Spending time together as a family is so valuable and many have said they have learnt more about one another by taking part in activities as a group.”
This month we’ve two events still to come – let us help you beat that post-Christmas lull and step outside for a bit of gentle exercise following the indulgence of Christmas and New Year!
On Sunday 15th January we are running a Winter Wonders walk. Meet at the junction on Birkin Road and Pale Lane in West Haddlesey at 9.45am for a 10am start. We will finish at approximately 2pm so bring some hot drinks and food with you. Also it is advised you wear sturdy boots and waterproofs.
On Sunday 29th January, we are running a practical workday at Stockbridge Technology Centre. We will be doing some Rhodedendron removal and possibly some planting of native species. Rhododendron’s are a non-native species that is very aggressive, often outcompeting our natural vegetation and reducing biodiversity. This event will also run from 10am to 2pm; you will be getting stuck in so make sure you wear something you don’t mind getting dirty!
For more information about the events or the project, please call Kat or Steve on 01757 268642 or e-mail Kat. To add your email to the mailing list drop Kat a line. To keep up-to-date with the project and to find out about the experiences of others that have joined us on these events, search for ‘On the Wild Side!’ on Facebook.
We look forward to seeing you there!
